Creating Niner Echo Xray, in pictures

An open-cockpit rocket metal sculpture entitled “Niner Echo Xray” was built by RTDavis from new and recycled metals. The entire body of the sculpture fit in the artist’s workshop on his farm in NM. (One fin had to be cut off to move it out through the shop door, then welded back on.)

This sculpture is 22 feet tall and 7 feet in diameter and weighs about 800 pounds. The shop is built with an I-beam running the long way in the room and ten feet off the floor. Along this tracks a chain fall which can lift a ton or so, allowing the artist to single-handedly move the sculpture around.
