And it begins!
Work on the Rocket88 project is underway.
My plan was to find an early 60s car for the project, and we found it: a 1962 Oldsmobile in Tres Piedras NM. It is a model “Dynamic 88” with a solid body and nice rust patina, with faded paint and patches of smooth, bare, rusted metal.
The Oldsmobile 88 was a popular car with its high performance V8 engine. In the day, this new “Rocket V8” engine was the one to beat on the stock car racing circuit.
Advertising for this car in the 60’s drew upon space travel motifs with names such as Jetstar, Starfire, and Jetaway. It is just right for the beginnings of the Rocket88 sculpture.
